OAM paid SOM a courtesy visit

Putrajaya, 29 Sep. 2007: OAM represented by the Chairperson of its Board, Mr. Ong Kung Wai and Certification Officer, Jumat Majid made a courtesy visit to SOM office today. Pn. Norma Othman, Director of Quality Control Division, DoA attended OAM at the visit.

The courtesy visit was organised to update SOM on OAM intention to offer an export certification service, a domestic assurance programme and the common Organic Malaysia market mark. When asked whether DoA would have any objections to the plan she did not raise any. She even thought the common mark was a good idea and focusing on Malaysia domestic assurance to processir and retailers would compliment SOM service.

Currently DoA is in the process of revising SOM standards to make it simpler for the farmers and lay people to understand the requirements. OAM and the public is invited to comment on the revised standards. Those who are interested to comment can get in touch with Jumat Majid (jumatmajid[at]myjaring.net).
